Age Suitability

Last updated: June 24, 2025

LingoBloom is an educational language-learning app designed to help learners build vocabulary through picture flashcards and visual memory hooks. The content and experience are suitable for children, students, and families learning French or Portuguese.

Who is LingoBloom for?

The app is built for learners of all ages who want to study everyday vocabulary in a calm, focused environment. Younger learners can use the same flashcards, example sentences, and picture clues as older students and adults.

Account creation requires users to be at least 13 years old, or to have a parent or guardian create and supervise the account on their behalf. We recommend that parents and teachers review the app with younger children and stay involved in practice sessions.

What kind of content is included?

Vocabulary is organised by CEFR level, starting with beginner (A1) words drawn from everyday life. Content focuses on concrete, practical topics — not news, politics, or mature themes. Typical categories include:

Animals

  • chiendog
  • chatcat
  • oiseaubird

Food & drink

  • painbread
  • pommeapple
  • eauwater

Places

  • maisonhouse
  • écoleschool
  • parcpark

People & everyday words

  • enfantchild
  • amifriend
  • mercithank you

Basic actions

  • mangerto eat
  • allerto go
  • lireto read

Each word is shown with a simple definition, an example sentence, a translation, and a picture clue — a mnemonic image that links the foreign word to its meaning.

How the app works

  1. Choose your languages. Pick the language you already know and the vocabulary language you want to learn (French or Portuguese).
  2. Practice with flashcards. Review words on swipeable cards. Tap to flip and see the translation plus a picture clue. Swipe to mark words you know or want to practise again.
  3. Explore vocabulary. Browse words by topic and difficulty level on an interactive map. Open any word to read its meaning and see its mnemonic image.
  4. Track progress.Earn XP, build streaks, and watch words move from seed to bloom as mastery grows. Progress is private to the learner's account.
  5. Create picture clues (optional). Learners can describe a personal memory scene and LingoBloom generates a custom mnemonic image for that word. This feature is optional — default picture clues are provided for many words.

What LingoBloom does not include

  • No social feed, public profiles, or direct messaging between users
  • No advertising
  • No gambling, violence, or mature-themed learning content
  • No open chat rooms or unmoderated user-to-user interaction

The experience is centred on solo vocabulary study with progress saved to a private account.

Picture clues and custom content

Default picture clues are generated to illustrate everyday vocabulary in a child-friendly, educational style. If a learner creates a custom picture clue, they write a short text description and the app generates an image from it. We encourage parents and teachers to supervise this feature with younger learners so descriptions stay appropriate.

Custom content is stored privately on the learner's account and is not shared with other users.

Data and privacy

We collect only the information needed to run the service — such as an email address, learning progress, and any custom picture-clue descriptions a learner creates. We do not sell personal information. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
